My own bridal button bouquet!

As you all know, the reason Cute as a Button got started in the first place is because I saw a button bouquet on the internet and fell in love with it. I decided , to save money, that I would attempt to make my own and the rest is history!

Im glad I had a chance to make other bouquets first. Its given me a chance to perfect my technique and find out what style I wanted for my bouquet. I’ve gone with a 100 stem teardrop bouquet. The teardrop is slightly different to teardrops I’ve done on other bouquets, but I really like it. Its not quite finished I’d like to add! I need to finish the collar and handle but at this present moment I’m not quite sure how I want it.

Every single button in my bouquet was either given to me by friends, friends relatives, relatives of ours, found in antique shops or car boot sales which makes it so more special to me.

We’re going to use it as our table centre piece at the reception.

Button Bouquet Progress.

Anyone who reads this blog on a regular basis will be very aware that I decided to attempt to make my button bouquets for our wedding myself, mainly due to being on a very tight budget and I guess I just wanted to see if I could do it!

Well I have made one! It’s not completely finished as the handle still needs to be covered and the material leafs that lay under the buttons need to be made. (I’m waiting on the materials I’ve ordered to arrive!)

Now this one isn’t for our wedding as it was a trial run to see if I could do it, and here it is!

I’m soooo pleased with it! I by no means got it right straight away and had to fiddle around with it a lot but I’m very pleased with the way it’s turned out and cant wait to see what it looks like when the handle is finished!

Now, since I posted the pictures of my progress on Facebook and Twitter, I’ve had some great  feedback about it! So thank you all for your kind words! It has however, opened up a great opportunity for me, as through this, I have been approached by a bride to be to create a button bouquet for her wedding! So I guess this is going to become a little side business for me! I’m over joyed at the prospect of making these for other people and possibly having it as a second job! (don’t want to get too ahead of myself though!)

So, this pink, purple and red bouquet will be for sale once its finished! If anyone would like to buy it please contact me at emmabuzec_27@yahoo.co.uk.

I’ve also finished some of the buttonholes for our wedding and had some great feedback about them too and I’m extremely pleased with them!

These aren’t for sale! 🙂 However, I will be making buttonholes too if people want them!

So, there’s my update! I’m currently meant to be resting after having some teeth out this morning but I have a very special exclusive post to share with you tomorrow which I cant wait to do!

Some Very Special Table Centerpieces

If any of you have read some of my previous posts, you will know that as centerpieces for the tables at the reception, we had the idea for edible flowers (with a little help from our friend Bill!) We both thought it would be a fantastic idea. However, the idea of making edible flowers was a little daunting to me. I like to try my hand at most things, and would like to think I’m not too bad at the crafty bits and pieces but I’m the first to admit, I’m rubbish at baking!

So imagine my excitement and joy when Alison uploaded these little beauties to Alli’s Cake’s Facebook page!

I wrote a post about Alli’s amazing cupcake making abilities at the start of the month and had some great feedback from it. (See, Some Very Special Cupcakes). I’ve been keeping a close eye on all the new and mind blowing designs that she has been posting and these absolutely blew me away! And, it solves my problem of how to make the edible flowers!

When I saw them, I got in touch with Alli straight away, and lucky me! She agreed to make us some as centerpieces on the tables at our wedding reception! I need to have a look around for the buckets for them to sit in, but we’re going to have one cupcake per person per table and I’ve given Alli some colour and theme ideas. I’m going to get some little, Alice in Wonderland type signs to go in them that say “Eat Me”. Vintage Twee do some amazing Alice in Wonderland stuff!

I’m so over the moon with this idea, I can’t thank Alli enough for her amazing creative ability! We will be meeting up very soon to discuss ideas over a coffee! I can’t wait! I’ve even ordered one for my mum for mothers day!

Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together!

DIY Wedding Flowers

Im sure your all aware that wedding flowers cost the earth! However, even armed with this knowledge, I was still taken back by just how much it can all come to. You have the brides bouquet, the bridesmaids, buttonholes, venue flowers and the list goes on and on and on and before you know it, your paying £1000’s for flowers that will look pretty on the day, but don’t last very long!

Im not a flower person to be honest, and the thought of spending so much money on something I’m not really into bothers me. So I’ve looked into alternatives.

It was my wonderful daughter who come up with the idea of making some of the venue flowers out of plasticine after being given some as a Christmas present from me and James. So I spent some time on the internet trying to find out if this is possible. I came across James Mays Plasticine Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2009 and it looked amazing!

So I started to look into how you can do this and I found this amazing page called “Playing with Flowers”.

So we then made some of our own:

Im sure with a little practice we can make these look really nice. And I’m hoping that I can make some decoration’s at the reception look like this:

As for bouquets I’ve seen some amazing ideas over at RocknRollBride so please go check them out!

I shall keep you posted on mine and Jessica’s progress!
